Ways to Help Your Third Grader Succeed at Rural Vale School 1ST Nine Weeks
Read with your child each night and study Spelling words.
Many students have access to electronics such as: iPads, Kindle Fires, or other tablets. Please allow your child to download educational apps. Just search apps for the topic that we are covering in class! A multiplication app would be great help!
Each time you read with your child make sure that he or she has a clear understanding of the text. Ask your child questions about the characters and when and where the story takes place. Also have your child put the events in the story in order. Once he or she has read the text completely have him or her summarize it for you.

Parent ideas to help with these objectives:
-Have your child read a story to you or you read to your child. Give them paper, fold it three time and have them write the beginning, middle and end of the story with specific details.
-Place vocabulary words from your child’s reading story or spelling words in different places in your home. When they see the word, have them read it throughout the week and describe its’ meaning.
-While driving in the car, have students and join them in skip counting by 2, 5, 10, 25, 100, 1000 BUT don’t always start at 2, 5, 10, or 100. Start at 13 and skip count by 2’s OR start at 178 and skip count by 100’s.
-Play a fact family game. For example…you write 17+3=20 and the child must write 20-3=17 and 20-17=3.
